Language Learning at the META Resource Centre
The University of Sydney META Resource Centre (formerly Language Centre) provides language laboratory and audiovisual support services to the Faculty of Arts. The Centre is an excellent resource for both students and teachers of languages other than English and English as a second language.
The Audio-Visual Library is a closed-access reserve collection where student and staff can access language materials required as part of their undergraduate courses. The library also holds recordings of some lectures.
In addition to curriculum materials the library holds kits for learning over 100 languages by self-study, and an extensive collection of materials for students learning English as a second language.
The Self-Study room offers students a place to drop in and use language learning materials on language learning consoles, computers, and DVD/Video players. Use of these resources is free to all students and staff of the University of Sydney.
If you are teaching a language course, the META Resource Centre offers language laboratory, multimedia, computer and videoconferencing rooms for language learning.
META Centre offers access to satellite television broadcasts in Arabic, French, German, Greek, Indonesian, Italian Spanish and Thai, which can viewed in the Resource Centre, or through the streaming broadcast on the university intranet.
