The Australian Centre for Lesbian and Gay Research (ACLGR) was established at the University of Sydney in 1993 to encourage and foster research into all aspects of homosexuality, sexual attitudes and behaviour, gender and any issues related to or of relevance to lesbians and gay men.

The ACLGR holds a series of seminars and an annual public lecture, organises a yearly conference and occasional forums, publishes a newsletter and volumes of conference papers, carries out commissioned research, provides affiliation and resources for visiting academics at the University of Sydney and works with community groups and individuals from a variety of areas to foster work on gay and lesbian issues.

The office bearers of the Centre consist of two Presidents, two Co-Directors and two Associate Directors. The ACLGR Board is made up of members appointed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sydney as well as elected members. As a unit of university, it enjoys tax-exempt status. Members come from both academia and the wider community.

The ACLGR has a two-storey terrace-house, providing office space and meeting-rooms, at the University of Sydney's Darlington campus. The day to day running of the Centre is overseen by a working party which meets monthly. For further information about involvement in the working party, please contact the Centre.
