Interns
Kimi Fox - November, 2007
Kimi Fox joined CPACS for one week in November 2007 on work experience. Kimi assisted Associate Professor Jake Lynch with research on how Muslims and Islam are represented in two Filipino newspapers.
Jake's paper, ‘The “Islam problem” as represented by news journalism in two participant countries in the ‘Global War on Terrorism’ – Australia and the Philippines’, was presented to a conference at La Trobe University, Melbourne, organised by its Centre for Dialogue, in December.
Joseph Toman - Semester 1, 2007
Joseph Toman, Master of International Relations student at the University of NSW, completed an internship with CPACS in first semester 2007. Supervised by Dr Wendy Lambourne, Joe researched the structure and functioning of the new United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) looking at its performance in the four sectors of security and public order, economic recovery and reconstruction, governance and participation, and justice and reconciliation.
His research focussed on assessing the role of the PBC in relation to Sierra Leone, in terms of achieving its mandate to improve coordination, support sustainable development, involve civil society and maintain a longer term focus on peacebuilding in the country concerned.
Joe produced a report and presented a seminar at CPACS on his findings, and contributed to the writing of an article published in the UNAA Annual Report Card 2007.
