Undergraduate Diplomas

Time Limits

Undergraduate Diplomas must be completed within five calendar years of commencement. Any semesters in which you are on an approved suspension, or not enrolled, are counted towards this overall time limit.

Credit for Previous Studies

Credit for previous undergraduate studies may be granted for the Diploma. Please contact the Faculty of Arts Office on +61 2 9351 or +61 2 9351 7449 for more information.

Eligibility for Admission

To be eligible for admission, you must either:

  • be enrolled in an undergraduate degree or combined degree at the University of Sydney, other than undergraduate degrees or combined degrees offered by the Faculty of Arts ( includes all combined degrees with a Bachelor of Arts component and the Bachelor of Liberal Studies)
  • be enrolled in an undergraduate degree or combined degree at another university, or
  • have been awarded, or be eligible for the award of an undergraduate degree from a recognised tertiary institution.

If you meet the eligibility criteria as outlined in either the first or second dot point above you must provide permission to enrol in the diploma from the Dean of your Faculty together with your application for the diploma.

Eligibility for Honours

If you wish to enrol as a candidate for a Diploma of Arts (Honours), Diploma of Language Studies (Honours), or Diploma of Social Sciences (Honours, you must:

  • have qualified for the award of the pass degree of Bachelor,
  • have completed at least 48 senior credit points at an average grade level of Credit or above in the subject area concerned,
  • meet any other entry requirements as specified in the table of units of study, and
  • have written permission from the relevant Chair of Department.
