Cross Listed Units of Study
Some majors may include Units of Study completed in departments other than that offering the major. These Units of Study are considered Cross-listed Units of Study and have special requirements set out below. There is also a document outlining all cross-listed Units of Study that you can download.
For example, you may complete a major in Asian Studies (under the acronym ASNS) by gaining a pass or higher in three senior ASNS units of study and three senior Government (GOVT) units of study, as specified in the Cross-listed Units of Study document.
The number of credit points allowed to be cross-listed towards a major in a particular Unit of Study from another department is a maximum of 18 senior credit points. Therefore, the remaining 18 senior credit points required to make up the 36 seniors for a "Table A" Arts major will be from the department whose major you are completing.
Certain majors in the Arts Faculty are comprised entirely of cross-listed units, for example, Film Studies and European Studies. In these instances the 18 credit point limit does not apply - all 36 seniors required for the major will be cross-listed from other Unit of Study areas as listed on the cross-listing document.
N.B: Only designated Units of Study may be cross-listed. Please check the Cross-listed Units of Study Document when choosing your subjects. Take care not to exceed the specified number of cross-listed credit points if you wish to successfully complete your major. Please be aware that the cross-listing document lists all Units of Study ever cross-listed to a discipline or department, regardless of whether or not they are offered in the current year. This results in a long list of units.
You can download the 2009 Cross-listed Units of Study document.
