Enrolment Day
Welcome to the Faculty of Arts at the University of Sydney, and congratulations!
Your enrolment day will soon be approaching, after which you will officially be a student of the University of Sydney.
Preparing for enrolment is very important and you should read thoroughly the information package that you are sent with your letter of offer.
If you cannot attend the enrolment day you should contact the Faculty of Arts immediately on (02) 9351 3129. You can send someone to act on your behalf. This person will be your proxy and must bring a completed proxy form (PDF) with both your signature, their own signature, and some photo ID.
Step 1: Read the information you receive from UAC
If your application to the University of Sydney has been successful, you will receive a package from the Universities Admission Centre (UAC) containing your letter of offer and other important information about the enrolment process.
You can also find a lot of that information at the Start website.
Step 2: Buy your Faculty Handbook
It is important that you have your own copy of the Faculty of Arts Handbook. The Handbook contains all of the relevant information regarding your degree and unit of study options for your first year of enrolment.
You can download a copy of the handbook online, or purchase a copy from the Student Centre in the Carslaw Building.
Please note: if you are planning on enrolling in units of study from another Faculty (ie. as part of a combined degree or joint degree program) you may need to get both the Faculty of Arts Handbook and the handbook from the other faculty in which you will be studying.
Step 3: Consider your Unit of Study Choices
You should prepare for your enrolment day by familiarising yourself with the units of study on offer to you in your first year of enrolment, and ensuring that you think about how the units you choose might fit into your whole degree program.
The Handbook contains a table of all units of study available. The Degree Pathways website will assist you in making choices in the context of your whole degree. You can start to think about the units you may wish to take later in your degree, and make sure you have the right prerequisite units now.
You will need to select your units of study for the whole year on your enrolment day. Make sure you bring your Handbook in case you need to change your selection. For each unit of study you would like to enrol in check:
- the unit of study name (eg Academic Writing)
- the unit of study code (eg ENGL1000)
- the semester in which it is offered (i.e. 1 or 2)
- whether your Semester 2 units have any Semester 1 prerequisites
Stage 1: Complete the Faculty Enrolment Process
Location: MacLaurin Hall, Main Quadrangle, Camperdown Campus
Make sure you bring the following to your enrolment day:
- your letter of offer
- a pen
- your tax file number (if accepted to a Commonwealth Supported Place)
- credit card, cheque or money order (for payment)
- your Handbook
- a 2b pencil (Arts/Social Work students only)
Collect your enrolment forms and information package from the Faculty of Arts Enrolment site. Complete your enrolment form and Commonwealth Assistance form (CAF) (if applicable). You will need to select all of your units of study for the current year. You will not be asked to choose units of study for later years at this stage.
Take your completed enrolment form and Commonwealth Assistance form (CAF) (if applicable) to the staff at the computers.
Stage 2: Complete your University Enrolment Process
Commonwealth Assistance arrangements, payments, student cards and travel concession are handled at this stage. Take your enrolment form, Commonwealth Assistance form (CAF), passport photo, tax file number and payment option to the Step 2 Stage of enrolment to finalise your enrolment.
You can make changes to your enrolment before semester begins. You can vary your enrolment using the student online website myUni, or you can vary your enrolment on paper with the Faculty of Arts Office.
Please be aware of the final dates for varying enrolments, such as the HECS census dates of 31st March for Semester 1, and 31st August for Semester 2. You can find out about other important dates by visiting the First Year Timeline.
