Doctor of Philosophy

 

Intending candidates are required to have one of the following degrees in Anthropology:

  • a Master of Philosophy;
  • a Master of Letters with Merit;
  • a Bachelor of Arts degree with First Class Honours, or Second Class (Division I) Honours;
  • or an equivalent qualification at another University.

Intending candidates for the Doctor of Philosophy degree must complete a research thesis of 70,000-100,000 words. Candidates are required to submit a proposal and thesis outline of about 1,000 words to their supervisor(s) at the beginning of the candidature. All candidates are subject to an annual progress review and continuation of enrolment is subject to satisfactory performance.

Coursework is generally not required for the candidates enrolled in a Doctor of Philosophy program.

Master of Philosophy

 

Intending candidates are required to have one of the following degrees in Anthropology:

  • a Master of Letters degree;
  • a Master of Arts degree with Merit;
  • a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours;
  • or an equivalent qualification at another University.

Candidates will complete a research thesis of between 40,00 and 60,000 words. A thesis outline of 1,000 words must be submitted to the Department before you will be permitted to enrol in the degree.

Intending candidates are advised that students admitted to the Master of Philosophy program must complete the degree before applying for the Doctor of Philosophy program.
