Postgraduate study in Archaeology: Research Degrees
Doctor of Philosophy
Candidates are required to have one of the following degrees in Archaeology:
- a Master of Philosophy;
- a Bachelor of Arts degree with First Class Honours, or Second Class (Division I) Honours;
- or an equivalent qualification at another University.
Intending candidates for the Doctor of Philosophy degree must complete a research thesis of between 70,000 and 100,000 words, on a topic approved by the Department, which embodies original research.
Potential candidates should discuss their proposed thesis topic with a member of the teaching staff in the stream of Archaeology they wish to study. Candidates may then be required to submit a research proposal and outline of about 1,000 words.
Master of Philosophy
Intending candidates are required to have one of the following degrees in Archaeology:
- a Bachelor of Arts degree with First Class Honours, or Second Class (Division I) Honours;
- or an equivalent qualification at another University.
Candidates will complete a research thesis of between 40,00 and 60,000 words. Potential candidates are advised to discuss their proposed thesis topic with a member of the teaching staff in the stream of Archaeology they wish to study.
