How do I start studying Classical Studies?

If you are fresh to Latin or Ancient Greek, that is, you did not study them during the HSC, you may enter the first year streams of LATN1001/1002 or GRKA1001/1002. If you studied Latin for the HSC, you may enter first year streams in LATN1101/1102. If you studied Greek for the HSC, you may enter second-year Greek with GRKA2603/2604.

For all other subjects in Classics and Ancient History, there are no HSC prerequisites. If you wish to study Ancient History, you can enrol in the first year units (ANHS 1003/1004), but the prerequisites for Ancient History senior units also allow you to have sat junior units in History, Economic History or Classical Civilisation. You can also start studying Classical Civilisation and Greek and Roman Literature subjects in first year.

What happens after this?

After this depends on a lot of factors, including which degree you are sitting and under which Degree Resolutions you entered. It has been made more complex by the recent changes to Units of Study that have made them all six-credit point subjects.

For best advice, we recommend you contact the Faculty of Arts by email at , by telephone on +612 9351 3129 or in person at the Faculty Office, Level 2, Lobby H, Quadrangle Building A14.
