Peace and Conflict Studies
|
OverviewWhat causes conflict and violence and how could they be transformed into peace with justice? How can we safeguard human rights and the environment? The Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies prepares students to engage with these questions - from local to global - through its world-renowned postgraduate coursework program informed by the latest research. A focus of the program is developing theoretical understanding and practical skills to apply in the increasingly diverse field of peace and conflict studies. Graduates go on to enjoy challenging and rewarding careers with the UN, non-governmental organizations, universities, government departments and agencies.
Learn about Peace Journalism with CPACS Director Jake Lynch, a former presenter on BBC World TV news; Human Rights with Adjunct Professor Sev Ozdowski, Australia's former Human Rights Commissioner, and from expert contributors
on everything from 'weapons of mass destruction' to the world's great religions.
The CPACS coursework program may be studied via a combination of distance
learning and intensive face-to-face teaching, as well as full or part time study in Sydney. This creates the opportunity for mid-career professionals to obtain a recognised qualification without having to uproot home or work, and includes the option of study every other year in London in July (Winter School). |
Career OpportunitiesGraduates of Peace and Conflict Studies work for the United Nations, international non-government organisations, local community organisations, universities and government departments, and as peace-builders, community workers, diplomats, academics, conflict resolution practitioners and researchers.
