Policies

The Department of Gender and Cultural Studies is housed within the School of Philosophical and Historical Inquiry (SOPHI), and adopts SOPHI policies whenever that is applicable. Please see the SOPHI policy on academic honesty and plagiarism.

Coursework assignments

If you need an extension for an assignment, or are having difficulties with attendance, you should contact the co-ordinator of the unit of study concerned. You can also view the the Faculty’s policy on Special Consideration for postgraduate coursework students.

All written assignments for coursework should be handed in to the SOPHI office or submitted on the unit's WebCT site (unless otherwise stated by the co-ordinator). Students are strongly advised to keep a copy of all written work submitted.

All work submitted to the SOPHI office must be attached to a completed approved cover sheet, which can be found at the SOPHI office or downloaded.

Most work submitted to the Department of Gender and Cultural Studies takes the form of essays or other analytic written assignments. When assessment in other media or in other styles is allowed, that will be specified in the unit of study outline. In general, the following standards apply.

The work should be typed or word-processed with double-spacing. Assignments should be clearly written in English and with reference to the specified word length.

The Department has its own Style Manual which is available from your unit of study co-ordinator or for download (PDF Format). Please read this document and use it as a guide for pieces of written work submitted for assessment.
