Postgraduate coordinator

Master of Arts

 

Candidates for the Master of Arts (MA) must have a BA (pass) with a major in German. Intakes occur in both Semester 1 and 2.

Pattern of progression
Full time: 1 - 2 years
Part time: 2 - 4 years

Course structure
The MA consists of eight units of study, each worth 6 credit points (each unit of study is equivalent to 2 hours per week). The MA may be completed full-time in one year or part-time in two years. Two of these coursework units may be replaced by a dissertation of about 12,000 words.

Areas of coursework include German language and linguistics, nineteenth and twentieth century German and Austrian literature. The coursework assumes an advanced level of fluency in German and requires substantial reading in the original language. You should also have an adequate command of English.

Unless otherwise determined by the lecturer concerned, all literature and linguistics units are assessed by a 6,000 word essay.

Graduate Diploma in Arts

 

Candidates for the Graduate Diploma in Arts must have a BA (pass) with a major in German.

Pattern of progression
Full time: 1 - 2 years
Part time: up to 3 years

Graduate Certificate in Arts

 

Candidates for the Certificate must be graduates who have successfully completed a BA (pass) with a major in German.

Pattern of progression
Full time: 1 semester
Part time: 1 - 2 years
