Allan McConnell's main teaching and research interests are in various aspects of public policy making. He has written/edited five books. The two most recent focus broadly on the politics of crisis and disaster management. In 2007 he published Risk and Crisis Management in the Public Sector (Routledge) with Lynn Drennan, Chief Executive of ALARM, the UK's National Forum for Risk Management in the Public Sector. In February 2008, he published a co-edited book entitled Governing After Crisis: The Politics of Investigation, Accountability and Learning (Cambridge University Press) with Arjen Boin and Paul 't Hart.
He is currently working on several policy and crisis-related projects, the most extensive being a book on the Politics of Policy Success.
