Dr Mikler's position is one focussing on business and public policy. His research interests are primarily focussed on the role of transnational economic actors, particularly multinational corporations, and the interaction between them and states, international organisations and civil society. He takes a comparative institutionalist perspective to the way in which economic actors are regulated, or exercise private authority, especially in respect of the social and environmental impacts of their instrumentally-motivated actions. His recent research is on the international car industry, applying the Varieties of Capitalism Approach to analyse the actions it is/is not taking in respect of the environmental impacts of its products. He is currently researching the global regulation of online gambling, and the national institutional contexts that inform regulatory approaches to climate change. Dr Mikler has presented his work at national and international conferences, and has had his research published as a working paper, book chapter, and as journal articles in "Global Society", "Business and Politics", "Policy and Society" and "Regulation and Governance". His first book, published by Edward Elgar in 2009, is "Greening the Car Industry: Varieties of Capitalism and Climate Change". In 2008, the Standing Group on Regulatory Governance of the European Consortium for Political Research awarded him its inaugural Giandomenico Majone Prize. This prize recognises outstanding research by scholars in the field of regulatory governance. See http://regulation.upf.edu/index.php?id=giandomenico_majone_prize . He currently teaches GOVT2221 Politics of International Economic Relations; GOVT2558 Government, Business and Society; and GOVT6123 Globalisation and Governance. |
