Overseas students and non-residents

Access to the department's research degree programs can be gained via the Endeavoour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) scheme.

The purpose of the Endeavour IPRS scheme is to attract top quality overseas postgraduate students to areas of research strength in higher education institutions and to support Australia's research effort.

The program offers students the opportunity to obtain a postgraduate qualification and to gain experience with leading Australian researchers. Successful applicants study in areas of research strength in which an institution has concentrated its research resources and has attracted external funding.

IPRS scholarships cover tuition fees at individual institutions and health insurance premiums for a period of two years for a Masters Research Degree and three years for a PhD degree, with a possible extension in certain circumstances. Further information is available from DEST (Department of Education, Science and Training). Otherwise for more information and to receive application forms, contact Ayling Rubin at the International Office or application forms maybe downloaded from the University of Sydney International Student Scholarships information website during May and August.

In addition the University of Sydney invites candidates who are eligible to undertake a Postgraduate Research Degree or Master's by Research program at this University to apply for the University of Sydney International Research Scholarship (USIRS).

The objective of the USIRS is to attract top quality international postgraduate students to undertake research projects which will enhance the University's research activities. The USIRS is open to all research disciplines.

The USIRS will cover tuition fees and living allowance for three years with a possibility of one semester's extension.
