Hebrew, Biblical and Jewish Studies
Postgraduate Coursework 2010 Overview

Overview

Hebrew, Biblical and Jewish Studies centres on a number of major areas: the Classical Hebrew language of the Old Testament of the Bible, Bible studies, Modern Hebrew, Yiddish language and literature, and Jewish civilisation, thought and culture. Units of study encompass language and literature (focusing on Hebrew, Aramaic, Syriac, and Yiddish) as well as Hebrew and Judaic history and culture. Students can explore both historic and contemporary issues, such as the Arab-Israeli conflict and the relationship of Osama bin Laden to modern Israel.

Units of Study

NB: 2010 Units of Study will be finalised in late September 2009 and available to view on this site in October. Any links below to the online Handbook are to 2009 listings and should be treated as a guide only.

Pathways are a strategy for organising a program of study directed towards a specific area of interest or future employment.
Students can choose to specialise in either the Classical or Modern period, in which case they must complete a minimum of two units in their specialty, and their dissertation (Master of Arts candidates only) also must be in their area of specialty.
