Holocaust Studies
Postgraduate Coursework 2010 Overview

Overview

Since images of Nazi death camps first shocked the world, scholars have attempted to answer the urgent questions raised by the Holocaust. How could it happen? Why were Jews targeted so relentlessly, and why did Nazis also persecute Roma, homosexuals and people with disabilities? How has the Holocaust been constructed in memory? Why is genocide so common? Studying the Holocaust involves examining ideas of human nature and social psychology, racism and nationalism, industrial civilization and imperialism. Sydney is the only university in Australia that offers the full range of coursework postgraduate degrees in Holocaust Studies to examine these and other issues.
