Duration

This qualification is normally completed in 1.5 years of full time study or 3 - 6 years part time.

Entry Requirements

A Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in History with a Distinction average, or equivalent.

Students may apply directly for candidature in the Master of Letters (History).

Students who have already completed the requirements for the Master of Arts (History) and gained an average mark of 75 may apply to transfer to candidature for the Master of Letters (History). They will have completed 6 coursework units of study as a part of the requirements for the Master of Arts (History) as well as 2 units of the dissertation. Those admitted in this way undertake an 4 additional units: 2 elective units of study and 2 units of MLitt Treatise (10,000 words).

Completion Requirements

12 units of study (totalling 72 credit points) comprising 1 core unit, a 4 unit supervised treatise of 20,000 words (worth 24 credit points), plus 7 electives from the History postgraduate course offerings.

	Note for candidates undertaking elective HSTY 6994 Globalism, Internationalism and the UN: Please contact the coordinator, Associate Professor Glenda Sluga, at the latest by 18 July, 2008 (glenda.sluga@arts.usyd.edu.au). There will be an introductory meeting on Tuesday 22 July, with 6 additional hours of attendance required, drawing from a choice of public lectures, a postgraduate master class with visiting international academics from Harvard and Birkbeck, and combined staff/student seminars during the week 22-28 July. This attendance will be assessed and will count towards overall attendance and assessment requirements for the course. Semester seminars will then continue regularly from Tuesday 29 July in completion of those requirements.
