History

OverviewIt is almost a truism to say that we can learn from history as we learn from experience. In the Department of History at Sydney University you will discover that the past can never be merely an object of curiosity. It is always a focus of
passion, a field for argument and a basis for judgement. In the courses on offer for 2010, we will endeavour to bring the past
to life, to probe the causes of events and to look at the alternatives out of which the present has emerged.
By pursuing postgraduate coursework in History at Sydney, you will be part of the oldest and one of the largest history departments in Australia. The historians here cover a wide spectrum of the human experience, with particular areas of expertise including American, Australian, Medieval, Early Modern and Late Modern European History. Students will develop finely honed abilities in research and critical analysis, as well as in conveying the fruits of their research in both the spoken and written word. |
Career OpportunitiesHistory forms a strong basis for pursuing a career in the government, education or communication sectors.
