History Department Response to Student Feedback
HSTY2655 - Race Relations and Australian Frontiers (2006)

Unit Coordinator: Dr Kirsten Mckenzie

This course received a 90% agree and strongly agree and an 8% neutral response on the question of overall satisfaction. Students were particularly gratified by the dedication of the staff to their teaching responsibilities and to student needs with one commenting with reference to a lecturer: "Does she sleep?" The research essay was found to be a challenging task, but many students considered it to be the most rewarding part of the course. Students found a great deal to value in the way the course spoke to the concerns of their own time and their personal experiences and political involvement. In the written responses to the course there was a general groundswell of opinion that more contemporary topics, such as the Cronulla riots, could be covered in more detail. These suggestions will be taken on board when the course is revised to take more international connections into account. It will be taught in this revised form, as HSTY2678 Race Around the World, in 2008.
