Elisabeth teaches Indonesian Studies and Asian Studies at the University of Sydney. She joined the Department of Indonesian Studies in 2008 after two years in Indonesia working on education development programs in Islamic schools. Elisabeth’s research is currently focussed on Islamic education in Indonesia although she is also interested in language, power and opposition, with a focus on the New Order period, and in Indonesian historiography. Elisabeth has taught Indonesian and Asian Studies at the University of New South Wales and the Australian National University and has worked as an interpreter and translator. She is a member of the editorial committee of Inside Indonesia magazine.
