CASUAL SPORTS PRODUCERS - SEVEN NETWORK

We are looking for casual Sports Producers to join our news team based in Martin Place. These positions are responsible for producing sports stories to a high broadcast standard whilst utilising creativity and an original approach.
We are seeking experienced Sports Producers with excellent research and writing skills and a strong passion for sport. Previous experience voicing packages will be highly regarded.

You will be able to demonstrate an ability to think clearly and act quickly under pressure and work professionally as part of a team. A solid understanding of media law and ethics is essential. These positions also involve 24x7 shift work.

JOURNALISM RESEARCH ASSISTANT WANTED

A Research Assistant (RA) is required to work with Dr Penny O'Donnell and The Walkley Foundation on the research project, From Rivers of Gold to the Clickstream: Newspapers and Quality Journalism in the Internet*

The RA’s main role will be to conduct archival research of the prize-winning entries in the Walkley Awards for Excellence in Journalism.

This involves examining, classifying and recording information in a database.

The RA may also work with the Research team to identify:

  • categories that are needed to determine what constitutes excellent in journalism;
  • how judges come to their decisions, and
  • how ‘excellence’ has changed over time.

The RA will work independently and be based either in the The Walkley Foundation office in Surry Hills or the State Library of NSW.

A strong interest in journalism is desirable and previous experience in archival research will be highly regarded.

This project will enhance Australian democracy by providing a scholarly basis for public discussion about the ways that quality journalism can survive in the Internet age. It will create knowledge about the specifically Australian experience of newspapers' transition to online media services and will thus help Australian citizens and journalists engage in global debates about journalism futures. It will create knowledge about the workplace conditions that foster quality journalism. It will showcase Australian research in international scholarly debate within the field of Journalism Studies.

CASUAL TEACHING IN STRATEGIC PUBLIC RELATIONS

The Department of Media and Communications is seeking to build its database of potential tutors, and invites expressions of interest in casual teaching in the public relations area. We are interested in prospective applicants capable of teaching subjects at the undergraduate and/or post-graduate level including media relations/dealing with the media, public opinion, political public relations, organisational communication, and corporate communication. Candidates who have work experience in media relations are strongly encouraged to submit their interests. Previous background in course coordination and teaching at tertiary level would be beneficial.

Essential criteria:

  • First degree or Honours in relevant discipline such as public relations, Media relations, media and communications, or political science
  • professional experience in public relations and/or media relations.

Desirable criteria

  • Higher degree, completed or near completion, in relevant discipline
  • Experience of teaching adult learners at tertiary level
  • Experience in course coordination and curriculum development
  • Experience of teaching students of non-English speaking background
  • Evidence of research potential or track record in the relevant fields
