Richard Stanton's research interests are in public relations, journalism, politics and globalisation.

He teaches political and corporate public relations.

In 2009 he spent six months at Temple University, Philadelphia PA as a Visiting Professor in the School of Communication and Theater.

He is a Visiting Adjunct Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

He is the author of three books, one of which - Media Relations - was nominated for the International Communication Association Pride Award in 2008.

His current research is titled Global Shift: the transformation of power from journalism to public relations. It is a socio-historical study of the parallel universes of politics, journalism and public relations in the West from the late 17th century to the present. He is working on a concurrent book project on the relationship between public relations and death.

He is Editor of Political Communication Report, a journal of the International Communication Association Political communication Division, and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Communication Management.

He is the author of non fiction and fiction work and once upon a time he bushwalked, climbed mountains, canoed and rode pushbikes but now he plays golf and goes fishing.
