Honours
Fourth-year honours students complete advanced coursework and conduct dedicated research leading to the production of a substantial work of scholarship. As a research-intensive degree, the honours program is the primary segue into advanced postgraduate studies leading to the Masters of Philosophy or PhD.
Honours graduates are also highly sought after by corporations and government agencies for their intellectual and practical skills. These include the ability to collect, analyse, and organise specialised information in a critical way, write and think with superior proficiency, argue effectively, and work efficiently.
Students will complete six semester length seminars and associated work. In addition to this, students will write a thesis of about 15000 words on a subject chosen in consultation with the department. Individual guidance will be provided. Disciplinary fields best represented in the department are: Literary theory; literary criticism; nineteenth and twentieth century Greek poetry and prose; anthropological interpretation of literature; experimental writing; sociolinguistics; Byzantine and Modern Greek history and historiography.
Students with other interests and students wishing to undertake a joint honours with another department should enquire with the Chair of Department about potential arrangements.
