The Sydney Branch of the Centre for Millennial Studies will help put anyone in contact with major conferences organised by the founding Center at Boston University. During 2001, the Sydney Branch will co-sponser a series of seminars on the history of the millennial ideas with the Department of Studies in Religion at the University of Sydney. The initial focus will be on ancient ideas of relevance from the teachings of Zarathustra (Zoroaster), from classical Hebrew literature, and from the world of early Christianity. A highlight of the second half of the year will be Professor Kaikhosro Irani, City University of New York, speaking on Zarathustra's vision of a future good society. Garry Trompf will discuss those parts of his second volume on the Idea of Historical Recurrence in Western Thought that impinge on the history of millenarism. Mick Broderick will examine recent and ongoing expressions of millenarianism in popular film and television.
