Enrique Santamaría Busto was born in Burgos, Spain. He completed a double major Arts degree in Applied Languages at the Universidad de Burgos and in Comparative Literature at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where he received his MA in Spanish as a Foreign Language.
His professional activity has been always orientated to the teaching of Spanish language and culture, covering a wide range of disciplines (Advanced Grammar, Spanish for business, Creative Writing, Spanish civilization of the 20th century, French-Spanish translation, DELE, Spanish pronunciation). He has taught and coordinated different courses at the universities of Virginia, Wake Forest, Western Michigan (USA), Toulouse le Mirail, École Nationale Supérieure de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace (France), Technische Universität Braunschweig (Germany) and other institutions and universities of Spain (U. Complutense de Madrid, U. de Burgos, UIMP, Instituto Cervantes, Foundation for the International Education of Students, etc). In 2009 he came to Australia to teach at the University of Sydney.
Enrique Santamaría Busto is currently writing his PhD thesis focussing on Spanish pronunciation in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language.

Other professional contributions
- Director of the short film Learning España (2007). This 27-minute short film was part of a film workshop that had the goal to integrate Spanish and American university students in the process of writing, rehearsing and recording a fiction story depicting intercultural relations. This film was distinguished by IES INTERNATIONAL ABROAD with the Faculty Innovation Award (2007).
