Seven years full-time

This unique program allows students to combine their interests in the humanities and social sciences with medicine. Only five places are available and students are selected on the basis of their UAI and an interview, similar to the one used for the graduate-entry University of Sydney Medical Program (USydMP). To be considered, you must have a very high ATAR. In 2009, the UAI cut-off for entry into the program was 99.95. For more information on the ATAR please visit: http://www.usyd.edu.au/future_students/domestic_undergraduate/admissions/atar.shtml

Successful applicants are offered an Outstanding Achievement Scholarship.

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) (Honours) will accelerate into the senior level of the Arts degree and have the opportunity to complete an honours degree in three rather than the normal four years. Some specialist areas (eg languages) require specific prerequisites that may include additional junior units.

Students in the Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) (Honours) course, must maintain a Credit average each year in order to remain in the combined program. They are also required to complete three zero-credit point subjects in Medicine during the Arts (Advanced) (Honours) degree, as well as three subjects in the Faculty of Science (Biology, Physics and Chemistry), before progressing into the USydMP.

Students enrolled in the BA(Adv)(Hons)/MBBS who have met all the requirements of the BA (Adv) (Hons) do not have to sit for the GAMSAT to enter the USydMP. This course is available only to 2009 Year 12 applicants, or international applicants who achieve a University Admissions Index or equivalent of at least 99.95, and who completed one of the following:

  • An Australian Year 12 qualification in 2009;
  • An International Baccalaureate (IB) in Australia in 2009;
  • A New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3 in 2009;
  • The University of Sydney Foundation Program in 2009.
