This is a flexible award course which offers students the opportunity to develop a broad understanding of the social environment in which economic activity takes place, minimising mathematical approaches. Students may undertake majors in areas such as Political Economy, Industrial Relations, Human Resource Management, Government and International Relations, Economics, History and Sociology. Majors are also available across the Faculty of Arts, Economics and Business, Faculties of Science, Education and Social Work or Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.
Note that the Bachelor of Economic and Social Sciences can also be combined with a Bachelor of Law degree. In that case, about half of the units shown as electives in the above example would be units of study in Law. A combined Economic and Social Sciences/Law degree is a valuable and highly sought after qualification.

Career Opportunities
The Bachelor of Economic and Social Sciences degree is an excellent background for a wide range of careers such as journalism and the media, economic research, teaching, public service, non-government organisations and management. With this degree students will be ideally prepared for positions in economic and social policy work, as well as the social research areas of business.Graduates who go on to become journalists apply their skills in raising and discussing ideas about the direction of the economy. Others have gone on to work in public policy, advising governments on the role of economics in society. Career opportunities also include: economic consultant; economic researcher; financial analyst; human resources Manager; political analyst; and trade union researcher.
