Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) (Honours)

This degree replaces the Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) degree from 2007

The Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) (Honours) is designed to challenge the highest-achieving students by allowing acceleration into a senior Arts program from the commencement of the degree, and the completion of an Honours degree in an Arts major in three years. This degree emphasises and fosters high-level disciplinary and interdisciplinary research and methodology skills.

The Honours prorgram is completed in the third year of enrolment. Students undertake supervised research and attend seminars throughout the year, working towards their Honours thesis.

An annual Credit average (65 per cent) is the minimum academic standard required to remain enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) (Honours) program. Because of the acceleration there are some limitations on the subjects you can choose to major in and in which you take your Honours degree. You will work individually with the degree director to tailor a program that is right for you based on your interests and strengths and that fits the requirements of the program.

The basic requirements for the Bachelor of Arts (Advanced) (Honours) are:

  • A total of 144 credit points
  • A minimum of 96 senior credit points (2000-3000 level units) from the Table of Units of Study in the Faculty of Arts Handbook
  • A major from the Part A Table
  • No more than 60 senior credit points from any single subject area in the Table
  • No more than 36 senior credit points (2000-3000 level) from units of study in Part B of the Table, except that students who intend to undertake Double or Joint Honours may take up to 48 senior credit points from units of study in Part B of the Table in one of their Honours subjects
  • A minimum credit average (65%) across all units of study attempted in any year of enrolment prior to the year of enrolment in Honours
