Night Walking
Keli Stafford

If I should walk all night and all night again

My clumsy steps like a halting minuet

Amid black storms and sunlit spells

Ever chasing each other over the horizon

Into the face of a storm cloud at sunset,

I will have fled in a circle overtaken

By sensations that spread a wider gloom

Towards the edge of the unknown

Where my eyes alone see the misery

Created by sleepers who are uncaring

And encircled in a halo of vanity

While I am led through a labyrinth

Unwinding in the streets of the outcast

Living the story of what you do not say

From the first hour of my life to the last.
