2008 Language Student Travel Scholarships
The School of Languages & Cultures will offer Travel Scholarships in 2008 to assist students enrolled in undergraduate degree programs with travel and living costs incurred in studying overseas. Each Scholarship is worth $3,000.
Eligibility and Preference Criteria
- Eligibility is confined to students who are enrolled in degree programs offered by the Faculty of Arts intending to study overseas in 2008/2009, either on formal University of Sydney Exchange Programs, or through independent arrangements approved by the School.
- Only students working towards a language major and in at least their second year at university will be considered. Preference will be given to students who have shown evidence of an intention and the capacity to undertake Honours in the target language.
- Decisions will be based on high achievement in academic performance, both overall and in language units of study, as well as on evidence of the importance of language study within a student’s degree program and career path.
- These Scholarships cannot be awarded more than once to the same student and cannot be held in conjunction with other funding from the University of Sydney, or other institutions, to support their study abroad that exceeds $1,000. Accordingly, students enrolled in BA (Languages) are ineligible.
- The student must be enrolled at the overseas institution for a minimum of one semester and will normally be expected to enrol in the equivalent of 24 Faculty of Arts credit points at the overseas institution, of which at least 12 will be in the language major.
