School of Social and Political Sciences

The School of Social and Political Sciences (SSPS), the fourth School of the Faculty of Arts, was formed in 2008. The other three Schools of the Faculty are: the School of Philosophical and Historical Inquiry (SOPHI); the School of Languages and Culture (SLC) ; and the School of Letters, Arts, and Media (SLAM).

SSPS was created when two Departments moved from the Faculty of Economics and Business to join the Faculty of Arts: the Department of Government and International Relations; and the Department of Political Economy. The Departments moving from the Faculty of Economics and Business to Arts brought with them over 50 staff and many undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and programs that have considerably enriched the depth and variety of research and study in the Faculty of Arts.

These two Departments joined with three Faculty of Arts departments drawn from the School of Philosophical and Historical Inquiry (SOPHI): Sociology and Social Policy; Anthropology; and the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies; to form a new school, the School of Social and Political Sciences (SSPS).

SSPS is comprised of these Departments:
