SUMMARY:

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Policy Advisor – APS Level 5/6 (Broadbanded)

The National Security Resilience Policy Division undertakes policy development for areas which include chemical security, critical infrastructure protection, e security, identity security, emergency management and protective security. Policy developed within the division promotes the Australian Government’s commitment to national security.

You should be flexible and able to apply your skills to policy and administrative tasks undertaken in the Division.

As a Policy and Communications Officer for Closing the Gap within the QLD Office, you will:
•Provide strategic policy advice on issues affecting Indigenous people including design and delivery of program responses;
•Prepare advice on issues affecting Indigenous people for inclusion in Ministerial and departmental briefings, presentations etc;

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) was established by the NSW Government in 1989 in response to growing community concern about the integrity of public administration in NSW. 

The ICAC's principal functions are set out in the Independent Commission Against Corruption Act 1988. In summary, they are:

5. VARIOUS POSITIONS - Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience

SUMMARY:

AIME (Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience) is an Indigenous Corporation and a not-for-profit charity with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status that uses a unique style of structured education mentoring to link university students in a one-on-one relationship with high school Indigenous students. AIME's objectives are to increase Year 10, Year 12 and university admission rates for all Indigenous Australian students who participate in the program.

On the 5 January 2010 AIME will commence its operations nationally with expansion into Victoria and potentially Queensland. Further growth across the nation is also imminent.

Over the next five years AIME will be looking to increase its support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) high school students from our current number of 500 to a minimum of 3000 students annually by 2014. To do this, we need to build our team with committed, excellent individuals who want to be a part of this groundbreaking program.

We currently have 13 full‐time staff and envisage this will grow to over 50 by 2014.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

We would like to offer you the chance to put your hat in the ring to join the AIME team.

In 2010 there will be a minimum of 4 positions available in Melbourne, and potentially 1 position in Brisbane, plus another in Sydney. There will be plenty more to follow in 2011 with other states and territories also in the mix.

The positions that are on offer for 2010 are: Communication Manager and Program Manager (descriptions below).

Program Manager (ATSI preferred)

The AIME Program Manager is responsible for delivering the AIME Program on the ground at a university campus. This position works with a minimum of 100 ATSI kids, and manages 100 university volunteers. This is a dynamic role, often referred to as the ‘face of the program’ on the ground.

An AIME Program Manager needs to be socially confident, have tertiary qualifications or equivalent, be experienced in working with youth, and have high level communication and presentation/performance skills.

This role is the ‘head’ role‐model for the kids. A connection with the local ATSI community or experience working with different social groups is ideal.

Salary is $66,000 (super included). AIME also has salary sacrifice available.* Location for 2010: Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane.

Communication Manager

The Communication Manager is responsible for the management and support of three Program Managers. The Comm Manager is responsible for each Program Manager’s professional development and for ensuring they have the best possible opportunity to deliver the most engaging, successful AIME Program on the ground.

An AIME Communication Manager needs to have experience working in groups, and under pressure (in any context eg. sport/art/work). They must also have strong leadership skills, high level communication skills, an understanding of online social media, and experience in coaching or management.

An understanding of communications and the media is ideal, alongside a commitment to excellence. Tertiary qualifications or equivalent are required.

The Council has an internship available in the Studies Department.  The intern will report to a Senior Fellow who specializes in U.S. Foreign Policy and will help to organize and run the daily activities of the office and participate in research as needed.

•Providing support for large-scale international workshops and meetings, incl. budgeting and logistics;

SELECTION CRITERIA:
•Strong academic background in international relations and political science (other relevant fields will be considered);
•Strong research and organisational skills;
•Excellent knowledge of MS Office;
•Excellent English (spoken and written) is a key requirement; knowledge of Asian language(s) an advantage;
•Demonstrated interest and knowledge of the Asia Pacific region is a requirement;
•Experience in office work;
•Demonstrated interpersonal skills and team spirit, with the ability to work effectively in an international work environment;
•Adaptable and flexible personality, able to handle multiple tasks and workloads, ability to prioritise own work.

Full-time internship for four to six weeks in December/January We are looking for a student or recent graduate interested in health policy to help with a literature review of the purchaser/provider split in the National Health Service. You will be contributing to a larger qualitative study on NHS reform and the value of markets in public service provision.

Applicants should be studying for a Bachelor’s or higher degree in economics or health policy and should have some knowledge of NHS structure and re- form. Familiarity with PubMed and EMBASE searches would be an advantage.

SUMMARY:

Stop AIDS Alliance (SAA) is a joint partnership between Stop AIDS NOW! (SAN), the Netherlands, and the International HIV/AIDS Alliance (the Alliance), UK, created in 2002 to Influence and strengthen the EU’s response to the global HIV pandemic.

SAA is a member in Action for Global Health (AfGH), a cross-European network of NGOs, calling for Europe to act now to enable developing countries to achieve the health Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Assistant: European Policy will work closely with the Head of EU Policy and the European Policy Advisor to assist in implementation of SAA’s thematic work plan and activities carried out in the context of AfGH. This will include support to the development of key policy messages, provide (logistical) support to the organisation of events, update SAA’s website, writing news stories for AfGH’s website and support the head of EU Policy and the European Policy Advisor in their daily tasks and activities.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

The successful candidate must have a good knowledge of the functioning of EU Institutions and an understanding of the EU development cooperation. You also have a strong interest in working on health and HIV/AIDS issues. You must be able to work autonomously and able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously. You will be well organised and have a high level of interpersonal, administrative and computer skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are essential and the ability to work in another language, in particular
French, is a strong asset
