Facilities and Resources in SOPHI

Tutors' rooms

The main tutors’ room is located in room 820 in the Brennan MacCallum Building. It is equipped with seven desks and computers (five Macs and two PCs), bookcases and filing cabinets. There is one shared phone in the room; the number is .

There is a limited amount of space available on bookshelves and in filing cabinets to store books and other teaching materials; this is shared space so please be considerate of the needs of others. There is unfortunately no facility for securing valuable items. Laptops, mobile phones, iPods, handbags and any other items of value should be kept with you at all times.

Keys
To obtain a key for one of the tutors’ room, email or call the SOPHI office on 9036 6132. You will need to:

  • identify the tutors’ room you would like to use
  • provide your full name
  • the name of your supervisor
  • details of the unit of study (unit code and title) and
  • a contact phone number and email address.

Keys are usually ready to pick up from Security within one week; you can check whether your key is ready by contacting Security on 9351 5326 or 9351 4080.

You will need to take photo ID with you to pick up your key.
Once keys are ready they can be collected between the hours of 8.30am and 4.00pm from

Services Building (G12),
Codrington Street (cnr Abercrombie Street).

If you are using either of the tutors’ rooms please be aware of the need to keep these rooms locked when not in use. If no-one else is in the room when you leave, you must lock the door on your way out.

Student consultations

Tutors may use any of the meeting rooms in the Brennan MacCallum Building for student consultations; there is one close to the Tutors’ room at Brennan MacCallum 814. Sociology and Anthropology tutors may use the interview room on level one of the Mills Building – room 127. Booking sheets are placed on the doors of these rooms each semester. These rooms are generally kept unlocked; if the door is locked when you arrive please contact the SOPHI Office on 9351 2862.

Copiers, printers and fax

Please ask the staff in the SOPHI office for a pin to use the photocopiers
The School printers, photocopiers and fax machines are available to use for work-related purposes. Your unit coordinator or the SOHI office staff will provide you with a pin number for the photocopiers. The staff in the SOPHI Office are available to assist if you have difficulties using any of the office equipment, including if you forget your photocopier pin.

Arts email accounts

Do I need an Arts email account?
All casual academic staff employed with the School are encouraged to use an Arts email account; this email address indicates to students and other members of staff that you are part of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Sydney.

To apply for an Arts email account, fill out the application form available on the Arts Digital website. Return the completed form to Stephen Morrison in room 607 in Brennan MacCallum (A18) or fax the form through to Stephen on +612 9351 3918.
