Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC)

Each year the Australian Research Council (ARC), a statutory authority within the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR) asks universities across Australia to submit information on the research publications produced by their staff, students, Honorary Fellows and Visitors in the preceding year. This process is called Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC), and publications in certain designated categories:

  • A1: Authored Book;
  • B1: Book Chapter;
  • C1: Journal Article (peer reviewed) and
  • E1: Conference Proceeding (peer reviewed)

attract funding for the University.

In order to report your publications, SOPHI needs to provide DIISR with specific information which varies according to the publication. For more information on what is required for each category of publication, please select the relevant menu item on the left.

IRMA

IRMA is acronym for the Integrated Research Management Application database where your publications will be entered. You can view your publications, grants and other information via IRMA (you will need to use your Unikey), however you cannot edit your entries in IRMA. In order to add or alter entries in IRMA please contact:

University of Sydney Affiliations

Staff and students

The guidelines from DIISR indicate that, In order for SOPHI (and thus USyd) to claim the publications of staff and students, they are to have their affiliation within or on the work being claimed. However, at present there is provision, where no such affiliation is indicated within or on the work, to sign a proforma stating that the work has been undertaken in their capacity as staff or student at the University of Sydney. Staff should be aware that this may change, and, wherever possible, include thir affiliation within or on their publications.

Honoraries and Visitors

Until recently, this was also the case for Honoraries and Visitors. However, the Research Office has now indicated that it will no longer accept a signed proforma from Honoraries or Visitors, and will only accept their publications where their affiliation is stated within or on the publication itself. We therefore ask that Honorary members of SOPHI and visitors, wherever possible, include thier University of Sydney affiliation within or on their research publications.
