The David Harold Tribe Philosophy Award 2009

The aim of the David Harold Tribe Philosophy Award is to promote interest in philosophy, ethics, economics or politics and to help and give incentive to persons in those fields and to provide them with additional monetary amounts thus enabling them to further their education in those fields and enabling them to develop their insights and through the above means to advance the general public’s understanding of philosophy.

The award is for the best work of a theoretical nature displaying original thought on philosophy, ethics, economics or politics of seventy thousand (70,000) words or more (excluding notes, credits, appendices and bibliography) submitted to the university, providing that the judging panel is of the opinion that the work is of sufficient merit to warrant the award being made.

The work must
(1) be of an original nature
(2) have been completed not earlier than three (3) years before the closing date for the submission of entries; and
(3) have been created by a person ordinarily resident in Australia during the four (4) years preceding the closing date for the submission of entries.

Only ONE entry per person will be accepted.

Entry is free.

Three (3) copies of the work must be submitted with the entry form.

The entry must be posted or delivered by hand to arrive at the Office of the School of Philosophical and Historical Inquiry no later than 4pm on the closing date, Friday 11 December 2009, to

Late entries will not be considered.

Entries will not be accepted by email or by fax.

Entries will not be returned.

Receipt of entries will be acknowledged by email.

A panel of judges appointed by the University will select the winner. The decision of the judges is final and no further correspondence will be entered into.

The award is worth $12,000.

The winner will be announced early in 2010 on the SOPHI webpage.
