Award Category 2: Excellence in Teaching (Practice)
The Excellence in Teaching (Practice) Award is open to staff (individually or in teams) who are not responsible for designing and coordinating units of study but involved in teaching in tutorials, seminars, lectures and/or other teaching and learning situations (e.g. casual tutors, early career teaching staff, associate lecturers or lecturers who are not UoS coordinators). Who is eligible to apply for this award?
This award is designed to identify excellence among lecturers, associate lecturers, casual tutors or early career teaching staff who are not involved in designing and coordinating units of study but are committed to good practice and enhanced student learning in tutorials, seminars, lectures and other teaching and learning situations.
What are the benefits of an Excellence in Teaching (Practice) Award?
Benefits for you in applying for an Excellence in Teaching (Practice) Award:
- Recognises your outstanding contribution to teaching and learning in the Faculty of Arts.
- Funding to support your teaching or research.
In 2009, recipients of the Excellence in Teaching (Practice) award will each receive a prize of $500. The prize money will be provided through a university account or by cheque depending on the recipient’s circumstances. - Strengthens the teaching component of your curriculum vitae.
- Gives you an opportunity to share your teaching expertise with others.
- Enhances your status and profile as a teacher and scholar.
Benefits for your Department, School and/or the Faculty:
- For continuing staff, award of two Scholarship Index points (each year for five years, inclusive of the original year that the Award was granted), leading to funding allocation.
- Promotes sharing of professional expertise in the Department, School and the Faculty.
- Contributes to the Department, School and the Faculty teaching portfolio.
- Results in award of a Scholarship Index point, leading to funding allocation, in cases where you hold a fixed term or continuing appointment in the Faculty.
